The power of the vintage and the pedigree of the Lenswood site is immediately apparent here in the pure red summer fruits, tea cake spice, a touch of warm earth and bright floral allure. There’s a nice, tight composition with balanced complexities and a real sense of energy. The whole-bunch component is spot on, beautifully integrated with the tight structures, silky flow and complex length. Power, poise and outright quality in the glass.

What strikes you most is the lovely balance between fruit and savoury character, with bright berries, perfumed florals, tilled earth and some cured meat flavours supporting a structure of sappy/crunchy acidity and juicy, enveloping tannins.

There’s delicious perfume with some sappy notes and pure red fruit to intensity kick things off, alongside touches of bramble, florals and a lick of blue fruit. The fine boned structure screams cool climate with powdery tannins and delicate oak supporting a palate that suggests ripe, intensely-flavoured grapes picked at the perfect time, with good acidity. The finish possesses real class and impressive purity. It’s tighter and more coiled than the Central Otago Pinot—if you can’t give it time to unwind, a good decant will work wonders.

Alluringly fresh out the glass, you get lovely scents of dark cherry, exotic spice and an earthy tinge. It’s silky and vibrant fleshy, with a fine-boned structure offering plenty of immediate drinking pleasure. Wrapping around a core of deep red fruit, the tannins are perfectly formed and it closes with powerful length, elegance and freshness.

The palate has so much excitement and vibrancy yet an undeniable depth of flavour. Red fruits and savoury notes all present here. The acidity is fresh yet doesn’t attract from the silky mouthfeel - still a long road ahead for this wine.
