Heirloom Vineyards Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2023
Medium red and unfiltered-ish. Honest looking. Briar, blackberry, rose petal, tamarind, nougat. Rich fruits and dark berries emerge but are yet fleeting, as if to make a sublime point rather than a brash one. Pine forest floors in early Summer and fresh mushroom compost on a bright Spring morning as you turnover your vegetable plot. This is pinot being there. A cool mouthfeel. Coolth. Then grip via tannin at the back palate. In between flavours hasten slowly: fresh berry fruit meets a hint of a Burgandian tabac on a Saturday morning; cool berry leanness takes you to an early English Summer. The interplay between understated fruit and poised tannin is very much 'Stern Daughter of the Voice of God, Oh Duty!'. It's Wordsworthian in its attitude, this red wine. Be warned.
