Planted by Garry Farr in 1986, this block is our oldest Pinot Noir and is comprised of the MV6 clone. Planted on the higher slopes of the valley side this block has a gentle north facing aspect which allows full sun exposure throughout the season. The site is extremely low yielding on black volcanic clay loams, scattered with basalt. This block produces finely structured wines with seamless tannins and intrigue. Carefully hand harvested, this fruit was fermented in an open pot with whole bunch influence. Hand plunged twice daily with diligence and care, matured in 100% new oak for 10 months before bottling
Dark crimson in colour, this wine has intrigue. Perfumes of satsuma plums, fresh blackberries and dried herbs on the palate is disciplined and restrained with obviously underlying power and depth, it is like a horse about to bolt. Chewy upright tannins and bound up energy means this wine has a lot more to give.
