Mornington, VIC, Australia
The Kooyong Haven Pinot Noir 2023 originates from the estate's most protected sanctuary. Surrounded by mature tree belts, the Haven block enjoys a sheltered, amphitheatre-like mesoclimate, shielding the vines from the cold Bass Strait winds. Located on a relatively level site consisting of duplex loam over yellow clay with scattered sandstone pebbles, this block naturally ripens a darker, highly spiced, and deeply textural iteration of Mornington Pinot Noir.
The slow, steady maturation period of the 2023 vintage played perfectly into Haven’s sheltered position, allowing for the development of rich, dark fruit profiles without losing essential acidity. Hand-harvested and fermented with wild indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, the wine saw careful extraction over its 16-day time on skins. It was then racked to premium French oak puncheons and barriques for a 12-month maturation. Unfined and unfiltered.
Darker, moodier, and profoundly spiced. The Haven block consistently delivers a brooding aromatic profile of dark plum, black cherry, and bramble, deeply infused with exotic spices, clove, and roasted earth. The palate is marked by incredible texture and volume; it is velvety and mouth-filling, yet structured entirely around an architecture of ripe, supple tannins. There is a deep, savoury warmth here that completely envelops the senses, leading to a long, resonating finish.

The most enveloping, darker, and deeply spiced of the single-block series. The 2023 Haven is an incredibly generous and textural Pinot Noir that wraps around the palate with immense spice and dark fruit. Its sheltered origins translate directly into a beautifully plush structure. Phenomenal when paired with glazed duck, char-grilled lamb cuts, or rich paté.
