Mornington, VIC, Australia
The Kooyong Estate Pinot Noir 2024 represents a masterful synthesis of the entire Kooyong vineyard. Rather than hyper-focusing on a single micro-plot, the 'Estate' blend marries parcels from the Meres, Haven, Ferrous, and Nord blocks. This approach captures the quintessential Mornington Peninsula expression—delivering a wine that is tightly layered, energy-driven, and intrinsically complex.
The 2024 vintage provided outstanding growing conditions, allowing for pristine fruit development across all blocks. Spontaneous fermentation utilizing ambient yeasts occurred in a dynamic mix of large-format oak vats, concrete tanks, and open-top stainless steel fermenters. A considered portion of whole bunches was included over a 16–18 day maceration to build structure and spice. The final blend was matured for 12 months in French oak barriques (14% new) and puncheons.
Opulent, bright, and brilliantly composed. The nose is awash with an expansive expression of dark and red cherry fruit, crushed strawberry, pomegranate, and blood orange peel. Subtle floral hints of violet and earth spice weave through a touch of toasty oak. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, tightly layered, and incredibly vibrant. Fine, supportive tannins create a structured yet silky mouthfeel, driven by a bright, energetic acid line that provides remarkable length and freshness.
