Dalrymple Vineyards Single Site Ouse Pinot Noir 2023

Initial aromas of mocha and savoury notes give way to plump, red cherries and early season plums coupled with nutmeg and cinnamon spice. The palate is soft and delicious with fleshy plums and spices, fresh acidity and fine silky tannins that persist with the fruit well after the finish. After 6 hours of opening, blackcurrant and some savoury notes develop with soft tannins.

Single Site Ouse Pinot Noir offers a true interpretation of central Tasmanian terroir. The Ouse Vineyard was planted with MV6 clone Pinot Noir in the early 2000s. A most inland Pinot Noir resource of Dalrymple Vineyards, this site is also one of the warmest. East facing, with protection from the prevailing north westerly winds by the mountain ranges, the soil is basalt with a large number of small stones throughout the profile adding to the character of the wine.

Tasmania is Australia’s southernmost wine region. Its commercial vineyards date back to 1823, when Bartholomew Broughton planted the first vines. Incidentally, the very first vines in Victoria and South Australia also originated from Tasmania. The Tasmanian wine industry then lay dormant for nearly 100 years due to the gold rush, with commercial winemaking only resuming in the 1950s. After 70 years of development, Tasmania has become synonymous with premium wines, especially Pinot Noir. The island is divided into several sub‑regions—Tamar Valley, Pipers River, Derwent Valley, Coal River Valley, Huon Valley, and the East Coast. Among these, Coal River Valley is the most sought‑after: the winner of the 2024 Australian Pinot Noir Challenge hails from there, as does the highly coveted Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir. For a Pinot Noir enthusiast, Tasmania Pinot Noir is a not to be overlooked.
