Craggy Range’s 2024 release from Martinborough continues the estate’s reputation for purity, finesse, and vibrant varietal expression. Sourced from the estate's carefully managed vineyards in Wairarapa, this Pinot Noir embodies the elegance of the region and the meticulous attention to detail in winemaking that has earned Craggy Range global acclaim.
A warm, dry growing season—tempered by cool nights—allowed fruit to ripen slowly and evenly, contributing to the wine’s vivid aromatics and plush texture. The winemaking team employed a gentle, minimal-intervention approach: 90% destemmed and 10% whole bunch fermentation in a mix of French oak cuves and stainless steel open-tops, followed by maturation in fine French oak barriques (21% new) for seven months.
In the glass, the wine shimmers ruby with dark magenta edges. Aromas leap from the glass—ripe strawberry, red cherry, red liquorice, and hints of dried lavender and blackcurrant. The palate is plush and fruit-forward, bursting with red berries and finishing with fine, dusty cocoa-like tannins. A wine to enjoy in its youthful vibrancy, though it will hold gracefully over the short term.
